SRINAGAR: Three army men and two fidayeen (suicide attackers) were killed in a pre-dawn attack on an army camp in the border district of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

An army official said two fidayeen tried to storm into an army camp in the dark at Pargal area of Rajouri in the early hours today.

He said the army men deployed at the post detected the militants and fired on them.

There was heavy gunfire from both sides and in the encounter two fidayeen and three soldiers were killed.

Also, three soldiers were injured in the fidayeen attack and they have been evacuated to a nearby military hospital for specialised treatment.

Additional army, police and CRPF have been rushed to the area.

The army official said the operation was going on when reports last poured in. It is not known whether there were two or more attackers.

The attack comes four days ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
