NEW DELHI:  The second meeting of the Task Force on Indus Water Treaty took place in Srinagar on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri.

Misri took stock of the progress made on various hydro power projects in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He also met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and apprised him of the ongoing efforts to monitor implementation of hydro power projects in the Indus Basin under the directions from the Prime Minister’s Office. 

Meanwhile, the LG assured Misri of full cooperation of the UT administration in this national endeavour.Meanwhile, Misri met with the top military and security officials in the Union territory during his visit. He was briefed on the ongoing situation in Jammu &Kashmir. 

Misri appreciated the security arrangement in Srinagar for the just-concluded G20 Working Group on Tourism meeting.It was noted that progress had been made on several fronts and emphasis was laid on completing the works on all the Indus Basin Projects in a timely manner to enable better utilisation of India’s rights under the Treaty.

The meeting was attended, by the Principle Secretary Power Development Department, J&K UT and officials of the concerned executing agencies. Officials from the relevant Government of India ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of External Affairs and Commissioner (Indus) Ministry of Jal Shakti, attended the meeting.
