CHANDIGARH: A serving lieutenant colonel of the army shot himself and his wife in Ferozepur cantonment on Sunday night as they had a marital dispute.

The deceased officer has been identified as Lt Col Nishant Parmar and his wife Dimple, Station House Officer, Ferozepur Cantt. The couple had only one child a son and he was not living with them. Dimple was Nishant’s second wife.

Police sources said that the Lieutenant Colonel shot his 42-year-old wife Dimple (housewife) in her head and later strangulated her in their official accommodation in Ferozepur cantonment on Sunday night. Then the officer went to the temple with his unit’s quarter guard prayed, and then shot himself in the head.

The officer had left behind a note confessing to shooting his partner.

Police said the couple was undergoing regular counselling sessions.

The Army authorities and the police have started an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, bodies have been sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem.

Parmar hailed from Himachal Pradesh and his wife from Dehradun.
