BENGALURU: Congress leaders on Saturday tried to lay siege to the residence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Race Course road in Bengaluru city demanding his resignation on moral grounds over the Lokayukta trapping of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Veerupakshappa Madal’s son Prashanth Madal, Chief Accountant of Bangalore Water Supplies and Sewage Board (BWSSB) on Thursday.

Prashanth is accused of collecting a bribe amount on behalf of his father Veerupakshappa Madal who was the chairperson of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents and was trapped red-handed by the Lokayukta sleuths. After the trapping, Veerupakshappa Madal resigned as the chairperson and is said to be absconding and search is on to nab him by Lokayukta police.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders took to poster campaign in Bengaluru city against Veerupakshappa Madal over the Lokayukta trapping. Demanding immediate arrest of Veerupakshappa and resignation of Chief Minister, the Congress protest which was led by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala, Ramalinga Reddy, Priyank Kharge and others.

Police took the leaders into custody when they tried to lay siege to the CM’s residence on Race Course road in Bengaluru city. Attacking Basavaraj Bommai, Siddaramaiah said “I had handed over 8 cases to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the CBI has filed B report in all these cases. All charges have been dismissed.”

“Has any case been handed to CBI by Basavaraj Bommai?” questioned Siddaramaiah, accusing the Chief Minister of ‘sticking to power’.
