Hyderabad: TPCC working president Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud and NSUI state president Balmoor Venkat Narsing Rao of the Congress are expected to be declared elected unopposed as members of the Legislative Council from the MLA quota, obviating the need for the election that is scheduled for January 29.They were the only two candidates who filed their papers on Thursday, the last day.The Congress strength in the 40-member Council will increase to three; T. Jeevan Reddy is the lone MLC from the Congress now.The BRS decided to stay away after the EC decided to hold separate elections for the two MLC seats. The Congress with a strength of 65 MLAs, including the CPI legislator, can win two seats in the separate elections. The BRS with 39 MLAs stood no chance. The BRS had planned to contest if a common election was held for the two seats, hoping to bag one seat with the support of the seven-MLA AIMIM.Meanwhile, BRS working president K.T.Rama Rao held a meeting with party MLCs on Thursday at Telangana Bhavan and urged them to work for the party’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections. He said that party president K. Chandrashekar Rao will meet them soon. The meeting would also choose the BRS Council leader. The BRS has 32 members in the Council.
