Hyderabad: Staking claim to the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, independent India’s first home minister, TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy said that it was a collective decision of the Jawaharlal Nehru government to send armed forces to free Hyderabad State from the clutches of the Nizam.
After hoisting the National Flag at Gandhi Bhavan marking the commencement of the year-long Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations, Revanth Reddy asked Union home Minister Amit Shah if he was in the city without the prior approval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Apparently Shah has no knowledge of history. People like him must read history books and understand that it was the Congress and the Communists who took active part in the armed struggle. How can you stake claim to that legacy? It was Patel who laid the foundation for the Gandhi Bhavan. Sardar Patel shall remain part of the Congress’s family and will be remembered as the man who banned the RSS. You don’t have the moral right to even garland his state,” Reddy said, referring to Amit Shah.
The PCC chief blamed the TRS government for providing scope for the BJP to penetrate deep into the state with its inept governance. He alleged that Amit Shah was in Hyderabad with the sole purpose of engineering divisions on religious grounds while the Congress was trying to unite the country.
“While distracting the youth through your narratives and social media, your party in the background is benefiting a few corporates,” he alleged.
Revanth Reddy questioned BJP leaders, particularly Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, why there were no celebrations in Gujarat’s Junagadh ,which was another princely state that had resisted merger with the Indian Union.
