World Atheist Conference Promotes Rational Thinking and Secularism

Vijayawada: The 12th World Atheist Conference, celebrating 85 years of the Atheist Centre, commenced on Saturday in Vijayawada. Inaugurated by Kumaresan, Treasurer of Dravidar Kazhagam, Tamil Nadu, the conference focused on “Positive Atheism, Critical Thinking, and Secular Action.” Kumaresan lauded the contributions of Gora and Periyar to atheism and humanism and released a souvenir compiling articles on the theme.Over 300 delegates, including representatives from various organisations and government bodies, attended. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath praised the Atheist Centre’s eight-decade-long social reforms, while Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rama Mohan stressed the importance of fostering inquiry from a young age.The event also featured book releases, including Positive Atheism by Gora and a Hindi translation. Former Union Secretary Kamal Taori inaugurated a photo exhibition on secular social work by Vasavya Mahila Mandali. Delegates from 12 states participated in the two-day conference.
