Kolkata: West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday called chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s allegations about women feeling unsafe to visit the Raj Bhavan a “malicious tirade” and “waste-bin material.” Raj Bhavan said, “As regards the Chief Minister’s malicious tirade reported in newspapers today, Raj Bhavan neither cares for the absurd machinations nor deems it appropriate to respond to waste-bin material.” It elaborated, “Hon’ble Governor said God help my beloved people of Bengal and may give them strength to bear this circus of absurdities. People want progress, development, accountability, transparency and a violence-free and corruption-free Bengal. It is the Chief Minister’s duty to ensure them that.” Quoting Mr Bose, the Raj Bhavan added, “I am with my people and shall always be with them, come what may. Hon’ble Governor reiterated that his fight against corruption and violence shall not be hindered by such preposterous and laughable tactics.” Referring to TMC MLA Sayantika Banerjee’s fears, the Raj Bhavan pointed out, “The newly-elected MLAs had requested Hon’ble Governor to consider shifting the venue to the Assembly because of their personal preferences and never expressed any apprehensions about coming to Raj Bhavan otherwise.” “It may be pointed out that a winner of an election is recognized as MLA with the issuance of the Certificate of Election. Oath is required to be taken before taking their seat in the Assembly and to take part in the proceedings. Nothing prevents the newly elected MLAs from serving the people of their constituencies.” According to Raj Bhavan, “All issues are addressed by the Governor with promptitude and constitutional propriety as also this one and responses unjustifiably critical of the Governor was least expected from an experienced public representative. It is expected of public representatives to abide by Constitution and not generate erroneous and slanderous impression, obliquely adverse to the Governor, in public mind. The alibis floated in public domain are untenable.”
