Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra has instructed engineering department officials to enhance civic amenities and develop infrastructure for city residents. During a routine field visit on Sunday, the Commissioner toured areas including Sambamurthy Road, Bhagat Singh Road, GS Raju Road, Pathapadu, Singh Nagar, Kandrika, Nuzvid Road, and the 64th ward.The commissioner directed officials to ensure essential services in the 64th ward, particularly the provision of clean drinking water. He instructed daily collection and testing of water samples to maintain quality, prevent contamination of drinking water pipelines by drains, and prepare comprehensive plans for developmental activities. Dhyanchandra also advised utilising vacant municipal lands to develop parks and suggested creating detailed plans for the restoration and development of Payakapuram Pond. Guntur municipal corporation launches helpline ahead of storm ‘Fengal’In response to weather warnings of heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm ‘Fengal’ in the Bay of Bengal, Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has introduced a helpline to assist residents. GMC commissioner Puli Srinivasulu announced the initiative on Sunday, urging officials to stay on high alert. The helpline number 0863-2345103 is now available for residents needing support.Srinivasaulu directed engineering officials to prepare pumps for flood-prone areas and instructed the Roads and Highways department to have equipment on standby to clear fallen branches. Measures to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply were also put in place, with generators prepared for any outages. Residents facing difficulties due to the storm were encouraged to contact the helpline for assistance as the city braces for potential disruptions.
