BENGALURU: India’s mission to the moon inches closer to the lunar surface. In another significant advancement on Friday, the Lander Module underwent a successful deboosting operation.
Moving closer to a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole planned for August 23, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in a statement said, “LM successfully underwent a deboosting operation that reduced its orbit to 113 km x 157 km.” The Vikram lander and the Pragyan rover are in good health according to the space agency.
“The second deboosting operation is scheduled for August 20, 2023, around 0200 Hrs. IST” ISRO informed on the platform X. During the deboosting operations the module’s speed is slowed down in the orbit The coming week will be crucial for India’s ambitious Chandrayan 3 mission.

ISRO also released stellar images and videos taken of the moon as captured by Vikram Lander (Lander Imager Camera-1) and shared on its official handle on X.
