DEHRADUN:  Amid global alarms over the new Covid-19 variant Omicron, Uttarakhand government has announced that people arriving in the state will have to undergo mandatory tests. If positive or symptomatic, they will be quarantined for 14 days. 

The state health department has issued instructions to conduct these tests. “Instructions have been issued to officials of all 13 districts to conduct Covid tests on people coming from outside the state, stay vigilant and make sure that arrangements in medical facilities are up to the mark,” said Dr Pankaj Pandey, Health Secretary. It also decided that all Covid-19 samples will be sent to Government Medical College in Dehradun for genome sequencing.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has warned people about the new variant. He also instructed the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary and Director General of Police to make arrangements to check the spread of virus. On Sunday, the state had recorded 36 new cases. This figure was eight  on Monday. 

In Dehradun, officials of the district administration said a senior officer of Himachal Pradesh who came to Forest Research Institute is missing after testing positive. 

Testing in LucknowThe District Magistrate of Lucknow has issued guidelines for passengers arriving in the city airport. Passengers showing symptoms in thermal scanning will undergo free RT-PCR tests. And, 10 per cent of passengers arriving in Lucknow on all domestic flights will be tested on a random basis.
