Hyderabad: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed the department officials to call tenders within a week to take up repairs of breached bunds of tanks and canals due to the recent heavy rainUttam Kumar Reddy asked officials to secure administrative approvals from the government before Friday and call online tenders, and take up minor repair works at irrigation tanks, lakes and canals. He was speaking at a review meeting with chief engineers from all over the state through video conference from the irrigation department office in Jalasoudha.Uttam Kumar Reddy complemented the irrigation staff for working with dedication during the heavy rain. He also pointed out that several lacunae had come to light during his recent field visit. The irrigation staff had not constantly monitored the regulators and shutters of irrigation projects an this could lead to major mishaps, he said.He pointed out that the shutter of an irrigation project was washed away while lifting the gates. Chief engineers would be responsible henceforth if any mishap took place, Uttam Kumar Reddy cautioned.Irrigation department special secretary Rahul Bojja, secretary Prashant Jeevan Patil, engineers-in-chief Anil Kumar, Nagender Rao, Hare Ram, Shankar and adviser to the irrigation department Aditya Das Nath, deputy engineer-in-chief K.
