Hyderabad: The Centre for Folk Culture Studies (CFCS) at the School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), in association with the government’s department of language and culturewill host a two-day presentation and workshop on Oggu Katha, the traditional folk theatre art form of Telangana, on the September 23 and 24.CFCS head Dr Joly Puthussery said the programme would feature a performance by the renowned Oggu Katha troupe led by Singarapu Raj Kumar, part of the Komuravelli Mallanna Oggu Katha team. The event will be guided by Dr Kumara Swamy G., acclaimed playwright, director, and teacher from Telangana, who is also an alumnus of UoH. The initiative aims to raise awareness among students from diverse backgrounds about Telangana’s rich folk theatre traditions. The workshops are to serve as an invaluable opportunity for attendees to delve into the educational aspects and research methodologies associated with Indian folk arts., The events will offer participants a rare chance to witness and engage with Telangana’s vibrant folk culture. Singarapu Raj Kumar, leader of the Oggu Katha troupe, shared his excitement, stating that it is an honour to showcase their art form at one of the country’s premier universities for the first time.
