Nalgonda: Minister for roads and buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday said that the trauma care centre that is being established at Korlapad on NH 65 would become functional by September 8. Laying its foundation stone, he said that the centre, coming up at a cost of Rs 5 Cr, would boast of the latest medical equipment and skilled medical staff. He appreciated Dr. S. V. Reddy of ADP Company for coming forward to extend help for setting up the facility. He said that a helipad is earmarked near the centre and an air ambulance facility would be extended in the near future. As GMR, which was to upgrade NH 65 into a six-lane road, had defaulted, the contract was cancelled by the Centre. He said that the Union government would soon sanction `4,500 crore for upgrading NH no. 65 and a tender to award the contract would be issued in the second week of August. As fatal road accidents were increasing on NH 65, the trauma care centre will be a life saviour for the victims. It has been noticed that most of the accidents were happening at 17 black spots on a 67-km stretch of NH No. 65 in Nalgonda district. Presently, the injured persons are being shifted to KIMS at Narketpally or the government general hospitals in Nalgonda or Suryapet depending on the place of the accident. As Hyderabad and Vijayawada are at a considerable distance, the trauma care centre between the two cities can help in bringing down the casualty rate in road mishaps on NH no 65.
