Hyderabad: The city police arrested two inter-State gang members for allegedly extorting gold from a businessman at Hussaini Alam in old city. The arrested have been identified as Shaik Rostik, 39, and Shaik Hasijul, 33, both natives of West Bengal. Fifty-six grams of gold and Rs. 90,000 was seized from the possession of the arrested persons. Three more accused Bapi, Manik and Karthik, all natives of West Bengal, are absconding. Both Rostik and Hasijul migrated to Hyderabad from their native West Bengal to work as jewellery crafting and residing in Hussaini Alam with their family members. As Rostik’s earnings were not sufficient to meet his family expenses, he met Hasijul, who was also working as a jewellery maker in the old city. They hatched a plan colluding with three persons to extort gold from a jewellery shop. Accordingly, on July 5, 2024, both Rostik and Hasijul deputed Bapi, Manik and Karthik to a gold jewellery shop at Ghansi Bazar and extorted 80 grams of gold, two mobile phones and Rs.2,000 by threatening the shopkeeper with a knife and fled the spot. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested them and seized gold and cash from them.
