Top 100 wealth creating companies added Rs 138 trillion

Chennai: Between 2019 and 2024, the top 100 wealth creating companies created a total wealth of Rs 138 trillion. While these companies created wealth at 26 per cent CAGR higher than BSE Sensex return of 14 per cent, 20 PSUs accounted for a healthy 17 per cent of the wealth created. Adding Rs 11,178 billion, Reliance Industries was the biggest wealth creator in five years. Adani Green was the fastest wealth creator at a CAGR of 118 per cent. However, the most consistent wealth creator in all the five years was Linde India, an industrial gases and engineering company. While Adani Enterprises was the best all-round wealth creator for the third time in a row, Reliance Industries emerged the largest wealth creator for the sixth time in succession, according to Motilal Oswal’s annual study. Top 10 wealth creating companies added Rs 51,369 billion. This list includes Reliance Industries, TCS, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, and Infosys. Further, 20 public sector undertakings accounted for 17 per cent of the wealth created or Rs 23.46 billion. Of this, banks and other financial companies accounted for 47 per cent of the wealth created, utilities 23 per cent, capital goods 17 per cent and metal and mining companies 11 per cent. Profit of 9 PSU financial companies rose 19x over 5 years and profit of Coal India rose 4x over 5 years. The share of PSUs in wealth creation had started seeing a slowdown since 2013-18 when the CAGR was 9 per cent. In the next five years it further came down to 6 per cent and then to 3 per cent before the share became nil during the period 2017-22. Their share has picked up ever since.
