'What if she was collector's daughter', asks mother of toddler stuck in Rajasthan borewell for six days

JAIPUR: A three-year-old girl, who fell into a 150-foot-deep borewell in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, was brought out in an unconscious state on Wednesday after a 10-day rescue operation and rushed to hospital, officials said. However, the girl, Chetna, was declared dead by doctors at the hospital, they said.NDRF team in-charge Yogesh Meena said that when the girl was taken out there was no movement in her body.On December 28, a video of the girl’s mother Dholi Devi surfaced on social media where she can be seen wailing and pleading with folded hands to rescue her daughter.”It’s been six days… My daughter is hungry and thirsty. What if the girl was collector madam’s child? Would she let her be there for so long? Please get my daughter out as soon as possible,” Dholi Devi pleaded.Initially, the rescuers tried to pull out the girl using an iron ring attached to a rope, but all attempts failed. After two days of repeated attempts that fetched no results, a piling machine was brought to the spot on December 25 and a parallel pit was dug. After rain interrupted the rescue operation on December 27, a two-member team entered the pit on the next day to dig a tunnel. The girl was finally pulled out on Wednesday. This is the second such incident in Rajasthan. Two weeks ago, a five-year-old boy fell into a borewell in Dausa district where the rescue operation lasted for more than 55 hours. However, the boy lost the battle for life by the time he was taken out.
