TGSRTC strike on hold as poll code forces delay till March 8

Hyderabad: The TGSRTC employee unions, comprising six groups that joined as the joint action committee (JAC), must now wait until March 8 for further action, after they postponed their plans to launch a strike to press for their demands. A conciliation meeting scheduled by the labour commissioner on Monday evening was cancelled due to the enforcement of the code of conduct for the Legislative Council elections. In a letter issued at the meeting, the joint labour commissioner informed union members that fresh meeting dates would be set after the code of conduct was lifted on March 8.Union members expressed strong dissatisfaction with the management. “The management must fulfil the 21 demands, or we will go on strike,” one member said. Telangana Mazdoor Union adviser B. Yadaiah added, “On Tuesday, all union members will meet, and we will seek legal opinion before taking further action.” TMU working president Kamalakar Goud noted that the absence of management representatives at the meeting signalled a lack of intent to resolve their issues. He also mentioned that the joint labour commissioner had confirmed the election code is in effect from February 3 until March 8.The unions’ strike notice, issued on January 27, demanded implementation of the 2021 pay revision committee, reinstatement of unions replaced by the Employee Welfare Board (EWB), merger of TGSRTC with the state government, return of over `800 crore from the cooperative society fund, settlement of PF dues, regularisation of staff under the breadwinner scheme, and resolution of retired employees’ dues.
