Hyderabad:The Telangana High court expressed displeasure at the government for not filing a counter for two years in a petition challenging the non-conduct of the local body elections to several gram panchayats for years together.The court directed the panchyat raj department to file the counter within three weeks.A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara, was dealing with a petition filed in 2023, which complained of failure to conduct elections to for 220 sarpanches, 94 MPTCs, four ZPTCs, 5364 ward members and 344 deputy sarpanch positions.For the two years, the government has been requesting time from the court to file contentions. In the recent hearing, the court directed the government to file the counter within three weeks and adjourned the petition to March 5 for further hearing.
