Telangana HC slams GHMC for ignoring drain works in Malkajgiri

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court slammed GHMC officials for their inefficiency in completing drain works that were ordered by the court three years back for the purpose of diverting flood water flow in east Anand bagh, Malkajgiri. The court said that the municipal authorities have to provide adequate sewage and drainage facilities to the citizens. The court wanted to know why the civic body, despite collecting permission fees and property taxes, was unable to provide basic facilities like drainage and roads.Justice K. Lakshman was dealing with a contempt petition filed by a resident of Anantha Saraswathi nagar, east Anand bagh, who said it was wilful disobedience of the orders issued by the court in 2022, which directed the municipal authorities to expand the drain and removal of encroachments in FTL of Banda Cheruvu and other water bodies in area. GHMC authorities had said that the works would be completed in five months. It was submitted earlier that the GHMC had not taken any steps to remove the encroachments because of which the residents were suffering inundation problems.
