Telangana Governor urges youth to preserve culture

Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma stressed the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage, especially amongst the younger generation. He recalled his association with Spic Macay (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) in transforming the youth to connect with the heritage for almost half a century.He was speaking at an advisory board meeting of the organisation at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday. Spic Macay will hold its tenth international convention at IIT Hyderabad from May 26 to June 1.Prof. B.S. Murthy, Director, IIT Hyderabad, said the series would feature artistes who had won the nation’s highest civilian honours.Spic Macay founder Dr Kiran Seth shared the conceptual idea for creating an ashram-like atmosphere at the convention. He noted the strong connection between science and music, citing eminent scientists like Albert Einstein, German theoretical physicist Max Planck, renowned Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman who were classical music practitioners.Lakshmivalli Kona, convener, said the convention aimed to bring together thousands of students, artistes and cultural enthusiasts from across the world.The advisory board discussed the logistics, programme structure and strategies to expand Spic Macay’s activities globally by involving international universities and cultural institutions.
