Hyderabad: Chief Minister Sri A Revanth Reddy participated in the land allotment program for the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists MAC Housing Society at Ravindra Bharathi on Sunday, where he emphasized his government’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by the journalist community, particularly with regard to housing. In his address, CM Reddy acknowledged the critical role journalists play in society, comparing their work to that of doctors who diagnose and address the deformities in the social fabric. He credited former Chief Minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy for initiating the allotment of housing sites for journalists and assured the gathering that his government has now found a permanent solution to this long-standing issue. “Every profession must strive to uphold its dignity, and journalism is no different,” the CM remarked, adding that his government aims to build trust in the system, with journalists being an integral part of that system. However, CM Reddy expressed concern over the state of modern journalism, criticizing some media outlets for prioritizing false propaganda over responsible reporting. “Journalism has been tarnished by the actions of a few,” he said, urging professional journalists to take responsibility for restoring the reputation of their profession. The Chief Minister also assured the journalist community that his government is committed to safeguarding genuine reporters. He expressed disapproval of certain publications that, in his view, have degraded the standards of journalism by using objectionable language and engaging in politically motivated attacks, including on his own office. “I appeal to journalists to exercise self-restraint when action is taken against publications that have crossed ethical boundaries,” CM Reddy said. In an effort to address the concerns of the media fraternity, the Chief Minister ordered the Media Academy to draft new guidelines that would provide permanent solutions to issues such as journalists’ health cards, accreditation, and other pending matters. He assured that the government would approve these proposals in the cabinet. CM Reddy also announced that Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned to the Media Academy from the Special Development Fund, promising that the government will continue to work alongside journalists to resolve their problems. On housing, the Chief Minister assured the gathering that all eligible journalists will be included in the upcoming Future City project, urging everyone to participate in the development of this ambitious initiative. “There is no need to worry about housing. All eligible journalists will have a stake in the Future City,” he concluded. The event highlighted the government’s proactive stance in addressing journalists’ issues, with a particular focus on housing, accreditation, and media ethics, reinforcing the administration’s support for the fourth estate.
