PATNA: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Thursday said far from being afraid of ED and CBI, he was ready to let the agencies set up offices at his residence if this brought “shanti” (peace).

The RJD leader made the tongue-in-cheek reference to allegations of misuse of central agencies against political opponents of the BJP while chatting with journalists at his mother and former chief minister Rabri Devi’s house.

“If even this does not bring Shanti I cannot help it,” he said.

Claiming that he did not fear “these agencies” during his first tenure as deputy chief minister, Yadav said he used to fight with the Centre for the interests of Bihar.

The RJD leader served as deputy chief minister of Bihar from 2015 to 2017.

“Since then I have matured, having served as leader of the opposition and steered the party campaign in last assembly elections when my father was not available”, said the younger son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.

“The case lodged against me pertains to a time when I was a kid, pursuing my passion for cricket. If I had committed any crime why no action was taken”, asked Yadav who has been named in a money laundering case.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday termed senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s claim that he wanted to become the next Vice President of the country as “bogus” and “rubbish”.

The JD(U) leader on Wednesday took oath as Bihar chief minister for a record eighth time, a day after snapping ties with the BJP-led NDA and joining hands with the RJD and the Congress to form a ‘Mahagathbandhan’ government.

Talking to reporters here, Kumar said, : “You people must have heard that this man (Sushil Modi) is saying that I wanted to become Vice President. What a joke. It’s bogus and rubbish. I had no such desire at all. We supported the NDA candidate in the Presidential and Vice President polls”.

The BJP leader had alleged that Kumar wanted to become the vice president and had parted ways with BJP after the party failed to accommodate his ambitions Without mentioning his (Sushil Modi) name, Kumar said, “Since he is not holding any important posts, he may get something by making such statements against me. Let him say whatever he wants, I have no problems at all”.

Modi had criticised Kumar for partying ways with the BJP and joining hands with RJD and others, saying the JD(U) leader insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of Bihar who had voted for the NDA in the 2020 Assembly elections.

The BJP leader had also alleged that Kumar would take advantage of Lalu Prasad’s illness and will cause a split in the RJD.
