TANA Faces FBI Probe Into Fund Misappropriation

Hyderabad: Telugu Association of North America (Tana) is under investigation by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for alleged financial misappropriation. The United States District Court of California has issued subpoenas to Tana, requiring the organisation to submit physical and electronic documents and appear before the court.Reports indicated that the case revolved around Tana’s former treasurer Srikanth Polavarapu, who diverted nearly $3 million of the organisation’s funds into the accounts of his company Bruhat Technologies. The alleged diversion reportedly took place in November 2024, without any prior discussion or approval during Tana meetings.Srikanth allegedly admitted to the fund misappropriation in an email to Tana, stating it was his decision and that he accepted full responsibility for his actions. The US court instructed the association to provide details of all individuals who have served as officers, directors, or employees of Tana, meeting records, including minutes of board and executive meetings, quarterly and annual financial statements along with a complete list of donations Tana received, either directly or indirectly. The association must also submit their policies on accounting, audits and financial reporting, the work records of auditors, bookkeepers and tax preparers, information about devices used by Tana employees and account statements of any financial accounts linked to Tana.Tana, one of the largest organisations representing the Telugu diaspora in America, has not yet commented on the allegations. The FBI’s Special Agent is leading the investigation, and the court has emphasised full cooperation from Tana.
