Vijayawada:Minister N. Lokesh has sought Taiwan’s assistance in the setting up of electronics, textiles and footwear units in Andhra Pradesh.Lokesh held discussions with a delegation led by the director-general of the Taipei economic and cultural centre in Chennai, Richard Chen, at the minister’s residence on Thursday. The Taiwanese delegation reaffirmed its commitment to fully support the development of these industries in AP.The minister appreciated Taiwan’s leadership in the electronics, textiles and footwear manufacturing sectors. He provided insights into the state government’s role in policy formation and issuing of permits for such units. He also explained the state’s Speed of Doing model for those who come in for investments.He informed the Taiwan team about the establishment of electronics clusters in Tirupati from 2014 to 2019, which led to creation of numerous job opportunities for youths. “There is vast potential for job-creation in electronics, textiles, and footwear industries, and hence these areas are being prioritized for development in AP,” he said.Lokesh promised full support from the government for the Taiwanese firms to conduct their operations smoothly. He also sought cooperation in the establishment of specialized parks for the electronics, textiles and footwear sectors.The meeting was attended, among others, by Richard Chen, managing director Eric Chang from Nexusindo Consultancy, and Sai Kanta Varma, CEO of the economic development board of Andhra Pradesh.
