JAIPUR: Despite the Congress high command’s claims, the status of the strained relationship between CM Ashok Gehlot and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan remains unclear.
Following a high-level meeting in Delhi on Monday between Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and the two Rajasthan leaders, party general secretary KC Venugopal announced that the four-and-a-half-year-political feud between Gehlot and Pilot had been resolved.
However, the specific details of the reconciliation formula have not been made clear. While Pilot supporters maintain that, as before, the party’s high command has assured their leader of important responsibility in the upcoming elections. Rumours have it that Pilot may be offered the post of party president or chief of the campaign committee. Political analysts question the validity of these claims, considering Pilot’s body language after the meeting.
This meeting, 4th such attempt by the party brass has also presented a significant dilemma for Pilot, as today marks the final day of the ultimatum he had issued to the Gehlot government to address three demands favouring the youth. If he maintains his stance, there is a risk of displeasing the high command. On the other hand, if he remains silent after his demands are not met, his image as a weak leader who succumbs to pressure will suffer.
However, on the last day of the ultimatum, Pilot will be visiting his constituency, Tonk. He will participate in a youth dialogue. Political experts will closely observe the Pilot’s attitude during the discussion with the youth, as it may have a significant impact on the future of the state’s politics.
