VIJAYAWADA: Guntur Municipal Corporation launched a special desk with a phone number 0863-2345104 to receive complaints regarding violations of the norms of cow slaughtering during the Bakrid festival.
GMC commissioner Kirti Chekuri said that the Bakrid festival should be celebrated in Guntur city in a harmonious atmosphere and the city administration would provide full support for it. She said that the Bakrid festival would be held on July 10 and should be celebrated in accordance with government regulations. She said that the government had banned cow slaughtering, hence everyone should honour the norms and cooperate.
Kirti said that unauthorised animal slaughter was prohibited and temporary animal slaughterhouses would be set up with the necessary infrastructure. She said that four teams had been formed in coordination with the Municipal Corporation, Police, Revenue, and Animal Husbandry Departments to ensure no untoward incidents take place during the festival. She clarified that if cows were left on the roads, they would be seized by the Municipal Corporation, adding that they would not be returned. GMC commissioner Kirti asked people to report to the special desk phone number 0863-2345104 or to police 100 if they found any cow slaughter in their areas and to cooperate with the GMC to restrain cow slaughtering.
