Social Reintegration of Surrendered Naxals Helped Wane Maoist Influence: Sai

Raipur: Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday said that his government’s vision to ensure reintegration of surrendered Naxals in the society coupled with the rapid development of infrastructure in Leftwing insurgency-hit Bastar in the state has started yielding results leading to erosion of Maoist bases.“My government’s priority is not just to encourage Naxals to surrender but also to ensure that they reintegrate into society with dignity. Special rehabilitation schemes have been developed to provide employment and vocational training to surrendered Maoists.Additionally, rapid infrastructural development is being carried out in the Naxal-affected regions, including roads, electricity, education, healthcare, and employment generation”, Mr Sai said. The chief minister said that his government has achieved ‘historic success’ in its efforts to eradicate Naxalism.“The state’s effective policies and development-oriented approach have created an environment of sustained peace and security”, he added. No wonder, in the last 13 months since Mr Sai assumed office in December 2023, as many as 305 Maoists have been killed, 1,177 arrested and 985 have surrendered. These figures not only reflect the government’s commitment and strategic efficiency but also demonstrate that Chhattisgarh is rapidly moving towards peace and development, free from Naxal violence, he added.Mr Sai emphasized that the Naxal issue is not just a security challenge but also a socio-economic and development challenge. He said that his government has adopted a holistic approach to address the problem.Special rehabilitation programmes have been designed for surrendered Naxals, offering them employment opportunities, financial assistance, and reintegration into mainstream society.“The rehabilitation policies are not only bringing positive changes in their lives but also fostering an atmosphere of peace and trust in the society”, he said.He said that the arrest of 1,177 Maoists is a result of the government’s strong security policy. The Central and state governments have equipped security forces with advanced weapons, modern training, and better coordination, ensuring that Naxal operations are dismantled at their roots.Strict legal actions are being taken against the arrested Naxals to strengthen law and order in the state. For the first time, surrendered Naxals have been included as beneficiaries under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) to ensure that they have a roof over their head.
