Siddaramaiah labels BJP as 'Manuvadis'

Belagavi: Taking a dig at the BJP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused the party of indulging in divisive politics, contrasting it with the Congress party’s belief in Mahatma Gandhi’s Hindutva. He also labeled the BJP as “Manuvadis.” He was speaking at the unveiling ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on Tuesday. “BJP leaders falsely claim that Gandhi ji was anti-Hindu. The truth is, he was a devout Hindu who chanted Sri Rama’s name even in his final moments. Gandhiji was not against Hindus but sought reform and stressed the importance of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. It was Nathuram Godse, a follower of the BJP’s ideological lineage, who assassinated him,” he said. Lashing out at the BJP, the Chief Minister added, “While Congress upholds Gandhiji’s Hindutva, BJP thrives on creating divides. They are Manuvadis. Siddaramaiah highlighted the contributions of social reformers who fought for social reforms and against caste discrimination and stated that Dr. Ambedkar included their principles in the Constitution. “While the BJP has been conspiring to dilute the essence of the Constitution for years. Protecting the Constitution means protecting democracy, and we will not allow the BJP to trample upon it,” he asserted. Siddaramaiah also stressed his government’s determination to carry forward Gandhiji’s vision. “We are dedicated to making Gandhi’s ideals resonate with future generations and realizing his dream of Gram Swaraj,” he said. The Chief Minister reminded the gathering of Karnataka’s pivotal role in the freedom struggle. “A hundred years ago, Mahatma Gandhi presided over the AICC session held in Karnataka, lighting the flame of independence. This soil has witnessed the birth of transformative ideas, and it is our duty to honor that legacy,” he said.
