The Indian stock markets saw a significant dip as the Sensex fell by 398.13 points, closing at 81,523.16 on Friday. Similarly, the Nifty dropped 122.65 points, settling at 24,918.45, driven by a sell-off across various sectors.
Sectoral performance
Most sectoral indices closed lower, with Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty Auto leading the losses. Nifty FMCG was the only sector to end in the green.
Top gainers and losers
The top five gainers on the Nifty50 were Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, Bajaj Finance, Shriram Finance, and Britannia. Conversely, Tata Motors, ONGC, Wipro, L&T, and Adani Enterprises were among the biggest losers. Tata Motors witnessed a nearly 6% decline after brokerage firm UBS raised concerns over the company’s operations.
