Sensex falls 256 points due to selling in banking, FMCG shares on F&O expiry

The Indian stock markets started the day with a subdued outlook, following global market cues influenced by moderating oil prices. Key IT companies are poised to take center stage today after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) unveiled its September quarter (Q2 FY24) results on Wednesday. Investors are also eagerly awaiting the quarterly results from HCL Technologies and Infosys, set to be announced later today.

As of the latest data, the S&P BSE Sensex gained 41.2 points, representing a marginal increase of 0.06 percent, reaching 66,514.25. Simultaneously, the NSE Nifty saw an uptick of 16.85 points, or 0.09 percent, landing at 19,828.2.

In the broader market, both the Nifty Mid Cap 100 and Small Cap 100 indices initiated the day on a positive note.
