New Delhi:In a bid to eliminate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir within a strict timeline, central security forces — including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and specialised “Quick Action Teams” of the Assam Rifles — are set to launch coordinated operations against militants holed up in forested and hilly areas of the Union Territory.According to officials, these Quick Action Teams are trained in jungle warfare and will focus on flushing out terrorists who have taken refuge deep in the mountains and dense forests. Equipped with drones and state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the units will work under a comprehensive “umbrella plan” formulated in conjunction with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. As part of the initiative, the CRPF is deploying five new Valley-based QATs in the Srinagar region, targeting militant hideouts in hilly and jungle terrains. Units from the Assam Rifles and the National Security Guard (NSG) will also be active in the Jammu region, believed to be home to significant militant safe havens. “Multiple Quick Action Teams will conduct long-duration counter-terror operations, aiming to choke off terrorist movements and either capture or neutralise them,” said a senior CRPF official. The personnel in these teams bring extensive experience from anti-Naxal operations in other parts of the country, where they have honed their skills in jungle warfare. A senior ground commander confirmed that intelligence inputs would be rapidly converted into actionable information. “Timely, verified leads from our intelligence wing will be critical to ensuring successful missions,” the commander said. The decision to intensify counter-terror activities follows Union home minister Amit Shah’s review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month. Shah directed agencies to expedite operations and make the region terror-free “as quickly as possible.” In response, security forces have detailed an operational strategy to achieve these objectives. CRPF Director-General G.P. Singh, who is currently touring Jammu and Kashmir, has reviewed deployments in sensitive and hilly areas, including those in both the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region. “We have assigned officers from various units to support these teams with technology, backup, and real-time intelligence,” another official stated. With this multi-agency, tech-enabled blueprint in place, the security establishment is optimistic about curbing militant activity and restoring peace in the region.
