Samsung Teases Galaxy S25 Edge, Aims To Beat Apple’s iPhone 17 Air

Samsung plans to launch an ultrathin version of its Galaxy S25 smartphone in the first half of this year, aiming to beat Apple’s ultrathin iPhone. The South Korean tech giant previewed a handset called the Galaxy S25 Edge at the Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday in San Jose, California. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming Galaxy smartphone will focus more on artificial intelligence features rather than on major hardware upgrades.Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is known for its thin profile and it revives the slim smartphone market. Its rival, Apple, is planning to unveil an ultrathin smartphone later this year. In recent years, due to adding more camera technology, the slim smartphone market died down.According to a report by Bloomberg, Galaxy S25 Edge will be the fourth model of the newly unveiled S25 series and it comes with new AI features and voice commands. The company is pairing Google Gemini with its own on-device AI.“Samsung plans to sell Galaxy S25 Edge by the middle of the year,” TM Roh, Samsung executive who oversees its smartphones, told Bloomberg News in an interview. The Galaxy S25 Edge will have the same technology as the S25 Ultra model but it comes in a slim design model. “We’ve been trying to combine all the advantages of the S25 Ultra in a slimmer form factor,” TM Roh said.“Customers want the best performance, the best camera features, the best AI, but at the same time they want an even more attractive form factor that stands out among the pack,” he further said.Roh said the reason behind choosing the Edge name is due to two reasons: a thinner design and the smartphone will use more cutting-edge technology. He also revealed that the S25 Edge will be priced lower than the Ultra model. The company is also working with tech giant Google on a mixed-reality headset, dubbed Project Moohan. It is also developing augmented reality glasses using the same new software, Android XR.
