Visakhapatnam: The Anakapalli district police have launched a road safety campaign aimed at reducing traffic accidents through awareness and strict measures. The district SP Tuhin Sinha, in a press conference, revealed the strategy to combat road safety challenges, stating that a month-long road safety month would run from January 16 to February 15.The initiative comes on the heels of substantial traffic regulation violations in 2024, with a staggering 95,183 e-challans issued for various Motor Vehicle (MV) Act infractions. Breaking down the numbers, the SP revealed that 67,054 challans were issued for helmet violations, 4,388 for drunk driving, and 12,318 for open drinking.The SP said the only way to control road accidents is through creating awareness and following safety standards and instructed district police to implement a multi-approach to road safety, which includes daily visible policing, vehicle inspections, awareness campaigns about road safety and MV regulations, and regular “Drunk and Drive” checks.Five arrested including minors for ganja consumptionVisakhapatnam: The Denkada police in Vizianagaram district conducted a raid on the outskirts of Bethanapalli village on Wednesday, arresting five individuals, including three juveniles, for Ganja consumption.Vizianagaram district SP Vakul Jindal stated that sub-inspector A. Sanyasi Naidu, along with the special branch police, carried out the raid, resulting in the seizure of 160 grams of Ganja, five mobile phones, and two motorcycles.The arrested individuals have been identified as Kshatriya Jaswant (21) and Yatla Gopi (24), both residents of Vizianagaram town, along with three minors. Sub-inspector Sanyasi Naidu confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.APSCPCR members review preparations for Class 10 exams Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) member Gondu Sitaram reviewed preparations for the Class 10 examinations at the district education officer’s office. The exams are scheduled from March 17 to 31.District Education Officer N. Prem Kumar reported that 28,515 students from 106 government and 448 private schools will appear for the exams. The review covered arrangements at examination centres, including power backup and transport for students from remote areas.Sitaram emphasised that no student should miss their exams due to logistical issues and stressed the need for medical camps at centres. Prem Kumar assured that all arrangements would comply with APSCPCR guidelines and be coordinated with government departments.
