Visakhapatnam: The RINL management, as part of its Van Mahotsav 2024 programme, launched a tree plantation initiative called “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Plant in Mother’s Name) on Saturday. Van Mahotsav is celebrated during the first week of July each year to highlight the importance of trees and forests in preserving ecological harmony and ensuring ecological integrity. The Union ministry of agriculture initiated the programme in 1950. Since then, it has been celebrated across the country with tree plantations by government organisations and the general public. This year, as part of Van Mahotsav 2024, the agro-forestry wing of the town administration department of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has planned to plant 2,000 saplings of teak species within this week.G.V.N. Prasad, Director commercial, RINL, who inaugurated the programme, said that a significant contribution has been made towards reducing its carbon footprint by undertaking extensive tree plantation efforts, with 5.538 million saplings planted so far over several decades.RINL’s efforts have set an inspiring example for other industries to follow, demonstrating that even the most energy-intensive sectors can take proactive steps towards reducing their environmental impact, Prasad added.
