It’s a masterpiece so rare that it is bound to bring a smile on the faces of Team India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad, each time they look at it. The Champions Ring, a first-of-its-kind tribute in Indian cricket, designed to commemorate Team India’s flawless campaign in the T20 World Cup, is a stunner, to say the least.Crafted in solid 18k gold, weighing 60 grams, and encrusted with 330 natural diamonds, the ring blends luxury, legacy, and craftsmanship into a wearable symbol of triumph. The BCCI recently presented the champions ring to the team.Behind the creationSo what went behind the making of the iconic masterpieces which mirrors the extraordinary journey of Team India? “Each ring is not just a token of victory but a piece of history,” smiles Harsh Sagar, a fourth generation jeweller, who created the bespoke high end designs.Taking Hyderabad Chronicle through minute details of all that went into creation of the masterpieces, Harsh says each ring was identical in design yet uniquely personalized for every player. The process began with a detailed design brief provided by the Dream11 team. The brief was ambitious — the rings needed to showcase a wealth of personalised data, including jersey numbers, match wins, tournament statistics, players’ names, and stars to depict World Cup victories.“Beyond aesthetics, every ring had to share identical external dimensions but also accommodate each player’s unique ring size—a technical challenge solved ingeniously with the inclusion of a spring mechanism inside the ring band,” says Harsh. This innovation allowed the band to expand and contract seamlessly, ensuring a perfect fit for every recipient. From there, the creative process took shape. The first stage involved hand-drawn sketches to outline the initial design concept. “These sketches were then transformed into detailed CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models, which offered a precise preview of the ring’s structure, feasibility, and proportions,” he explains.Ashoka ChakraThe ring features a rotating chakra at the center, inspired by the Ashoka Chakra, symbolizing India’s relentless momentum. “It has Scorecard engravings immortalizing the team’s eight victories in the tournament,” informs Harsh. The rings come with stars above the jersey number, marking past World Cup wins and linking each player to India’s cricketing heritage.“An 18k gold, horseshoe-shaped spring insert inside the band, ensuring a custom fit for each player. It is also engraved with the team’s tournament statistics, making it uniquely tied to their victory. The Champions Ring is a statement of history, worn on the hand of every player who made it happen,” says Harsh. The ideology behind the ringHarsh says the ideology behind the ring was simple — To honor each player’s contribution in a way that is personal, wearable, and timeless. The idea, says Harsh, was also to introduce a new tradition to cricket, similar to championship rings in the NBA and NFL, while making it deeply rooted in Indian culture. “To make history tangible, ensuring that every key moment of India’s unbeaten World Cup run is etched into gold, diamonds, and fine craftsmanship. Every design element was chosen not just for aesthetics, but for meaning—this is a ring that tells a story.”“The rotating chakra is a direct reference to the Ashoka Chakra, a symbol of progress and national pride. The blue ceramic enamel inlay reflects India’s identity and the team’s colours,” says Harsh. The big questionWhat’s it’s worth? Harsh says the Champions Ring is priceless in sentiment and significance. While the exact valuation remains undisclosed, given its 18k gold composition, 330 natural diamonds, and intricate craftsmanship, the estimated value would be in the high-end luxury range. “However, its true value goes beyond material costs. It represents a moment in history, a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, and a legacy that the players will carry forever.”He says it took over 450 hours of effort for the final product to emerge. This project also marked a historic first. “Never before have championship rings been awarded to a sports team as mementos for a World Cup victory,” adds Harsh.
