HYDERABAD: State Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, instead of trying to alleviate the sufferings of flood victims was busy in Delhi, lobbying for clearing bills of contractors. He said the week-long visit of Chandrasekhar Rao to the national capital was aimed at securing these funds, so that he could get kickbacks.

In an open letter addressed to Chandrasekhar Rao, Revanth questioned the attitude of the state government towards the flood-affected people, and stated that instead of coming up with a comprehensive report on the damage and crop loss, the administration was washing its hands by sending a preliminary report. “There was a crop loss of over Rs 1,500 crore, but, till now, no study was conducted by the government and administration is yet to wake up for giving order to officials for a proper enumeration,” he pointed out.

According to the TPCC chief, Adilabad was the worst-hit with over 1 lakh acres of crop loss, followed by Nizamabad (close to 50,000 acres), Asifabad (45,500 acres), Bhupalpally (32,500 acre), Mancherial (27,500 acres), Nirmal (20,200 acres) and Bhadradri-Kothagudem (10,900 acres). Moreover the river sand is now accumulated in most of the fields adding to the woes of the farmers.

“Due to heavy rains, about 40 people are believed to have died. In 934 villages, 12,704 houses got damaged and 1456 livestock died, but officially nothing has come out yet,” he stated.

On the issue of cancellation of the ITIR project by the Centre, he felt Chandrasekhar Rao and son K. T. Rama Rao were behaving as if nothing had happened. “Your beloved son who lives in the virtual world of social media is gaining sympathy by posting pictures of leg injury and trying to cash in the situation to gain political mileage as guided by Prashant Kishore,” he added.
