Davos: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered an insightful speech on the future of urban mobility at the World Economic Forum’s CII-HMC Roundtable. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, he shared his vision for transforming urban transportation and infrastructure in the state.He highlighted that “mobility is life,” emphasizing that the future of any city can be predicted by analyzing the time and cost of moving people and goods. Cities that can reduce the time and cost of mobility will emerge as global leaders.Focusing on Telangana’s rapidly growing capital, Hyderabad, with a population exceeding 12 million, the Chief Minister outlined significant plans to enhance urban mobility. This includes expanding the Hyderabad Metro to over 100 km, more than doubling the existing capacity. He also spoke about constructing a 360 km Regional Ring Road, linking major towns and villages in the state, along with a Regional Ring Railway to complement this network.Addressing environmental concerns, Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of sustainable mobility, announcing a shift from traditional public buses to electric buses. This initiative will replace nearly 3,000 petrol and diesel buses with electric alternatives. Additionally, the state has exempted road tax and registration charges for electric vehicles, leading to Telangana witnessing the highest growth in EV sales in India.Looking ahead, the state is also developing a Net Zero Future City, designed to offer the world’s best mobility options, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation.Chief Minister Revanth Reddy concluded by stating that the vision for Telangana is clear: to provide fast, low-cost, and eco-friendly transportation for its people. He called for collaboration to move over 40 million people across the state in the fastest, greenest, and most efficient way possible.With these bold steps, Telangana aims to make Hyderabad the fastest-growing and greenest city in the world.
