Renowned filmmaker Shyam Benegal passed away on December 23 at the age of 90 due to kidney-related issues, confirmed by his daughter, Pia Benegal, to India Today. The director, best known for films like ‘Manthan’ and ‘Zubeidaa’, celebrated his 90th birthday on December 14 with family and friends, including prominent actors such as Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. Benegal was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1976 and the Padma Bhushan in 1991.
