KARIMNAGAR (PEDDAPALLI): Tension gripped Ramagundam as the BRS called for a bandh on Tuesday, opposing the public opinion process initiated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for the establishment of a new 2,400 MW power plant in the region.BRS district unit president and former MLA Korukanti Chander Patel demanded that NTPC address land acquisition and compensation issues before seeking public input. He criticised NTPC for neglecting displaced families and contract workers, alleging that the company has failed to provide adequate educational, healthcare, and job opportunities to those affected by its operations.“The NTPC power project lights up the nation while driving displaced families into darkness,” said Patel. He called for the inclusion of jobs within the project for displaced families, the allocation of funds for development in affected areas, and essential infrastructure for rehabilitation.Residents of nearby villages, including Kundanapalli, Malayalapalli, Akbar Nagar, Badripally, Moghalpura, and Matangi colonies, have demanded relocation to safer areas and warned they would obstruct the public opinion process if their concerns are not addressed. In response to the bandh and potential disruptions, authorities have deployed around 800 police personnel to maintain law and order in the area. Security has been tightened to prevent any untoward incidents during the protest.
