BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on September 17 to grace the launching of the state government’s much-touted Subhadra Yojana. The launch will mark Modi’s 75th birthday. In its election manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised to launch the Subhadra Yojana. The scheme aims at providing a cash voucher of Rs 50,000 to women. However, it is still unclear if every woman will avail the scheme or it will be provided to at least one female member of every family. PM Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and BJP national president JP Nadda had announced that Subhadra Yojana will be implemented within 100 days after BJP comes to power in the state. The announcement of Subhadra Yojana had made a serious cut into the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) women vote bank and helped the party dislodge the BJD government from power after a long stint of 24 years. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Subhadra Yojana in Odisha on September 17.. Five lakh women will attend the launching ceremony,” chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in New Delhi late on Saturday evening.
