Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has hailed the season of Christmas.“Christmas is the world’s largest festival, celebrated with grandeur globally. It is celebrated on the day of the birth of Jesus Christ, the savior of the world,” he said, and expressed his wish that “His compassion may be upon all of us.”Naidu was speaking at the Semi-Christmas celebrations held here on Monday, at which the pastors offered special prayers. The CM cut the cake and shared it with the pastors.Addressing the gathering, the chief minister announced plans to establish a Christian Missionaries Properties Development Board, which would provide financial support for the construction and renovation of churches.Naidu reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the poor, stressing that he is dedicated to eliminating poverty. He also shared the vision for a poverty-free society in the “Swarnandhra Vision 2047,” which aims to address economic disparities and promote collaborative efforts toward reducing inequality.He said Christianity is a symbol of love, compassion and service. He spoke of how, even before India gained independence, Christian missionaries established educational institutions inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, providing quality education and better healthcare services.Naidu encouraged everyone to follow Christ’s example, remembering His sacrifice, pursuing the path of peace and promoting the philosophy of love.He recalled that as the CM of united AP, he had directed the celebration of Christmas and Semi-Christmas events in districts. He reiterated his commitment to the welfare and security of minority communities, stating that the government will always stand by them.He recalled how, during an attack on a church in united Andhra Pradesh, he personally went to conduct an inquiry, ensuring such incidents were prevented.Naidu said his government prioritised the welfare of the Christian community, offering them financial assistance for church construction. “The government allocated financial aid for every service organisation, granting up to Rs.10 lakh to each. For the Christian building in Guntur, a 2 acre land was allocated and `10 crore designated for its construction. However, due to subsequent governmental negligence, the project stalled.”He said Rs.1.5 crore was provided by his government for the CSI Saint Basilica Church in Vijayawada and funds had also been sanctioned for Christian cemeteries.The CM highlighted the government’s provision of pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for Christian students, along with tuition fee reimbursements.
