Pink bus for free cancer screening in Tirupati

Tirupati: A free mobile pink bus was launched in Kotturu village of Indukurpet mandal on Tuesday to promote early detection and prevention of cancer. The initiative, a joint effort by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ (TTD) Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) and Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy (VPR) Foundation, was inaugurated by Nellore district collector O. Anand and MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy.The MLA said that their goal was to make the Kovur constituency cancer-free. The mobile bus is equipped with advanced technology to conduct three types of cancer tests under the supervision of SVIMS doctors. He added that every woman above 35 years should undergo cancer screening. Recalling her experiences during election campaigns, the MLA expressed her distress at witnessing the struggles of cancer patients. Vemireddy added that existing cancer patients in the constituency can register at the bus for free treatment through Aarogyasri or TTD Pranadana Trust.The district collector commended the initiative, thanking the Vemireddy couple and TTD SVIMS doctors. SVIMS director Dr R.V. Kumar said that these tests, which usually cost up to `10,000, were being conducted free of charge. He also mentioned that the mobile bus, worth `3.50 crore, was donated to SVIMS by the Vemireddy couple through the VPR Foundation. The event was attended by DMHO Dr Penchalaiah, SVIMS doctors and staff, district health department ANMs, and ASHA workers.
