Tollywood is undoubtedly fascinated with the re-release of star films these days. Superstar Pawan Kalyan has reportedly outwitted all his rivals by drawing record collections for his film ‘Gabbar Singh’. “Pawan proved his crowd-pulling prowess once again and garnered Rs 6 cr collections in the two Telugu states as the film was re-released on the eve of his birthday,” says a distributor. He claims that the energetic cop story registered more collections in Andhra Pradesh than in Telangana. “The film has surpassed record collections of Rs 5.4 crore plus for Mahesh Babu’s ‘Murari’’ and stays ahead in the race of re-releases,” he adds.Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh also surpassed the collections of his brother and megastar Chiranjeevi’s film “Indra’ and other colleagues like Jr NTR whose action film “Simhadri” clocked Rs 4 crores some time ago. “Mahesh Babu’s other film “Businessman” holds the record for number 2 in the re-release box office collection by drawing Rs 5.7cr. Hence, Mahesh is next only to Pawan at this moment,” he points out.Even though films of other big stars like Ram Charan (Orange) and Allu Arjun (Desamuduru) were rereleased, both movies managed to collect below Rs 2 crore each. “Interestingly, thematic films like ‘Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi’ and ‘Oey’ made Rs 1.5 crore each and proved that even non-stars have some space in re-release business,” he concludes.
