Visakhapatnam: Tribal students belonging to Tengilabandha village of Kiverla panchayat in Anantagiri mandal of Visakhapatnam, studying in classes I to V, are unable to attend their MPP Elementary School in Gangavaram, two-and-a-half kilometres away because of an overflowing stream.There are 27 Konda Dora tribal families living in Tengilabandha village, which grapple with this issue every year whenever there are heavy rains. This year, 25 of the students are unable to reach their school, which hampers their education.The high levels of water in the stream and the speed of water pose a safety risk, particularly for children, which is currently preventing them from attending their school.As a possible solution, parents of Tengilabandha village have suggested to the education authorities that they will construct a shed with their own money for running the school in their village.Pottangi Sathya Rao, a parent, pointed out that there are two teachers in the Gangavaram MPP School. One of these teachers could come to Tengilabandha village and take classes when the stream is overflowing due to heavy rains, so that their children will not miss their classes.It will be much more beneficial if the state government appoints a teacher for their village, Sathya Rao added.
