Hyderabad: Lack of awareness, less than the required training for officers and failure to register cases and ineffective investigation are the bane when it comes
to tackling human trafficking, pointed out the Union home ministry. It has
directed all states to lay stress on the issue to achieve more worthwhile
results.
It urged states to regularly exchange information through designated focal
points, sensitise police and judicial officials apart from those guarding
borders, take steps to tie-up with civil society organisations, and
monitoring activities of private placement agencies and travel agents.
“It is expected that States and UTs will be better equipped to tackle the
menace of human trafficking in an effective manner,” the ministry said.
States were asked to conduct conferences by involving civil society
organisations in order to understand the modus operandi which traffickers
use. It also suggested judicial colloquiums to sensitise judicial officers
and update them on issues relating to trafficking.
“This will help magistrates and judges to take appropriate decisions while
handling human trafficking cases,” it said.
