Kurnool/Visakhapatnam: A 15-year-old boy died when lightning struck him in Yemmiganur mandal of Kurnool district on Thursday. Thunderstorms lashed several mandals in Kurnool and Nandyal districts.Several areas experienced gale winds, light showers and significant rainfall. The region has been enduring high temperatures for weeks. The sudden thunderstorm provided a much-needed relief to the residents. The temperature dropped by 3.5 degrees in Kurnool, which recorded 36 degrees. IMD Amaravati forecast more thunder showers for the next two days. Its bulletin on Thursday said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on Friday.Gusty winds with speeds of 40-50kmph are also likely at isolated places over the same areas. The maximum temperature is likely to fall by two to three degrees Celsius over Rayalaseema. The same weather conditions were forecast for Saturday also. The temperature is likely to increase by two to three degrees Celsius from Sunday.The state disaster relief authority said Pedaoutipalli inKrishna district received 68.9mm rainfall, Sanikavaram in Prakasam district 65.2mm, Mulakalacheruvu in Annamaya district 57.7mm, Perusomala in Nandyal district 43.2mm and Atmakur in Krishna district 39mm rainfall.
