Hyderabad: Prof. Repaka Lakshmi Reddy, a prominent academic from Nizam College and writer on Deccan history, passed away at a city hospital on Sunday morning. She was 91 and leaves behind her sons Sidharth and Vivek. Her final rites will be held at Vaikunta Mahaprasthanam near Whisper Valley at Jubilee Hills at 12 noon on Monday.Prof. Lakshmi Reddy studied arts at Nizam College from 1949 to 56 and within a week of graduating, joined the college as a part-time lecturer in economics before eventually becoming a Professor. During her undergraduate student daysProf. Repaka Lakshmi Reddy, Lakshmi Reddy was part of the Osmania University athletics team as well as the hockey captain.Lakshmi Reddy was also the Nizam’s trustee for Urdu libraries and published five books on Deccan history. She was also a founder member of Nizam College Past Students Association, a body which she later headed as president. She was also president of the International Federation of University Women’s Association (IFUWA).Former students and staff of Nizam College and OU expressed their condolences on the demise of Prof. Lakshmi Reddy. “Prof Laxmi Reddy was a great and true teacher in a sense. Her’s was a class not to be missed during our college days as it used to be more interactive economics. Her knowledge of national and state politics too was immense and being an accomplished sportswoman herself, she was updated on the games as well. It’s rare to find such professors today,” said Susheel Dhanasri who graduated from Nizam College in 1991.
