Tirupati: A national conference on gender equality in the workplace and bridging the gender gap was organised by the Departments of Women’s Studies and Law at Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati on Friday, coinciding with National Girl Child Day. The event was conducted with support from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and its Southern Regional Centre.Vice Chancellor Acharya Vennam Uma stressed the importance of equal responsibilities for men and women to achieve true gender equality. She encouraged women to utilise available rights, laws, and opportunities to overcome workplace inequalities. Dr. G. Ramadevi, Managing Director of Amara Hospital, highlighted gender disparities starting in primary education and urged government intervention to address systemic gaps. She emphasised the need for women’s active participation in leadership and policymaking to eradicate generational discrimination. Professor C. Vani, Dean of Social Sciences, discussed wage gaps and workplace challenges, advocating for promoting equality to empower women. Dr. Neeraja, Director of the Seminar, shared insights from the World Economic Forum, noting it could take over 130 years to eliminate gender inequality. The conference featured 50 paper presentations from participants nationwide, with faculty, researchers, and students actively engaging.
