Despite the commercial success of Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, production house Mythri Movie Makers is now embroiled in a legal controversy. Music legend Ilaiyaraaja has reportedly sent a legal notice to the production house, accusing them of unauthorized use of three of his songs in the film and demanding Rs 5 crore in compensation. However, producer Ravi Shankar Yellamanchili has clarified that they have not yet received any official communication from Ilaiyaraaja. “We have not received any notice from Ilaiyaraaja garu yet. We have great respect for his musical genius, and once we receive the notice, our legal team will handle the matter,” he stated. Yellamanchili further emphasized that all necessary procedures were followed before using the songs. “We adhered to all the rules. We approached the relevant music companies, paid for the rights, and even obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before including the songs in the film,” he added, asserting that no rules were violated. In a notice reportedly sent to the filmmakers, Ilaiyaraaja alleged that the songs’ usage constituted unauthorized appropriation and infringement of his copyright and moral rights. He also stated that no permission, either express or implied, had been given for the songs’ use or alteration in Good Bad Ugly. The renowned composer is demanding a formal apology from the filmmakers, Rs 5 crore in compensation, and the immediate removal of his songs from the film.
